Harriet Golonka, 87, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Sugar Creek Alzheimers Center in Normal, IL. Harriet was born on December 9, 1929 in Poland, the daughter of Chester and Filomena Sawicki. She married Fred Golonka on May 5, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1997. Surviving are her children, James Golonka, Mercer, Wisconsin; Mary Ann (John) O’Donnell, Bloomington; grandchildren Dawn (Terry) Norman, Clarkdale, Arizona; Taylor (Khris) Golonka, El Segundo, California; and Megan, Kevin and Lauren O’Donnell, Bloomington, Illinois; and great-grandchildren Catelyn and Cassie Norman. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Regina Krakowian, Warren, Michigan; and Stella Hnatiuk, Tucson, Arizona; and nieces Halina (Joe) Sindrich, Tucson, Arizona, and Barbara (Andrew) Hengsteler, Tucson, Arizona. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Filomena; her husband, Fred; one son Henry Golonka; and nephew Casey (Sharon) Hnatiuk.
Harriet worked at Jovan Cosmetics and in the cafeteria at Conant High School. Harriet was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother (Babci) to her family and always put others needs before her own. She was a hard worker who loved to make others happy with her delicious meals and helpful nature. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially the National Anthem at any ballgame she ever attended for her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will be forever missed for her beautiful smile, her bright blue eyes, and her witty remarks and comebacks that always made us smile.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Church, 254 N. Wood Dale Rd, Wood Dale IL. Interment St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles IL. For funeral information, please call 630-766-3232.
