Joseph W. Krass

Joseph W. Krass, age 86 of Bensenville. Beloved husband for 62 years of Lu (nee Keane) Krass. Loving father of Gayle (David) Carzoli and Jodi (David) Leonard. Wonderful Papa of David Leonard, Nicolas Carzoli, Ryan Leonard and Andrew Carzoli. Dear brother of Dolores Neveu. Devoted son of the late Marjorie (nee Gallagher) and Joseph Krass. Dear uncle of many.

Joe was born in Elmhurst, on December 8, 1929, the son of the late Marjorie (nee Gallagher) and Joseph E. Krass.  He graduated from York Community High School.   In August of 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War.  Sgt. Joseph Krass was awarded the Bronze Star Medal due to the initiative and courage he displayed under adverse conditions on the battlefield.   Joe was also given the honor of belonging to the “Chosin Few”.

He attended YMCA Jr. College School of Real Estate where he earned his Associates degree in Real Estate for Appraising and Real Estate Law. He was a general contractor for 23 years and built homes in Bensenville, Bloomingdale, Fox River Grove and the Barrington communities, after which he became a full-time real estate appraiser for over 40 years.  Joe was a very active member in the I.F.A. organization.  He held every office from treasurer to president for the Chicago Metro chapter.  He was elected President of the N.A.I.F.A. in 1985.

Joe had a love for all types of sports and a competitive personality. These qualities laid the foundation for his joy of coaching.  He was extremely involved in the B.B.A.A. where he coached football, basketball, baseball and softball.  He had a positive impact on the athletes he coached. He also served on the Village Board as a Trustee for 16 years. Joe will be remembered for his tremendous service to his community and the organizations he served.  His dedication and love to his family.  His quick wit and great story telling abilities will be forever in the memories of his family and friends.  He was referred to as Joe, Warren, Unc, Uncle Warren, Uncle Bumpy, Uncle Joe and Papa.

The family would like to extend a most grateful thanks to his caregivers Edith and Esther for their loving and devoted care. Thank you to the VA and Journey Care for all their support during his illness.

Elisabeth Varga

September 21, 1931 – June 8, 2016

Elisabeth Varga (nee Edl), 84, after battling Alzheimers disease for a decade, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her husband, Paul. Loving mother of Irene Varga and Nancy (Gary) Troha. Proud Oma to Christina and Erica. Born in Hercegfalva, Hungary, Elisabeth was forced to flee her native country during WWII when the Russian Army invaded. Eventually she settled in Germany, where, at a New Years Eve party, she met the love of her life, Paul. From that day forward they waltzed together through life and were inseparable for 64 years. Elisabeth loved to cook, especially making palacsinta for her granddaughters. She took great joy every March spending time on the shores of Indian Rocks Beach in Florida surrounded by family. Elisabeth and Paul would often return to Hawaii after celebrating their silver anniversary there. They also enjoyed going on cruises to the caribbean. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 7th, from 4pm until time of Funeral Service 7:30pm at Geils Funeral Home, 180 S. York Road, Bensenville IL. Interment private.
