Ella “Ruth” Marie (nee Karcher) Mueller, 83, of Elgin, Illinois, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2017.
Born on February 5, 1934 in Vernon, Texas, Ruth was the sixth and youngest daughter of Ernest and Olivia Karcher and grew up on a farm in the Texas Panhandle.
Ruth graduated from Vernon High School and continued her education at St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas, becoming a primary school teacher in Steeleville, Illinois. It was there she met Glenn Mueller, who she was married to for 34 years. Their life together brought a move to the Chicago area and the blessing of four children.
Ruth’s steadfast Christian faith from a very young age touched every area of her life – in her teaching and hospital work, and as a parent and a friend. She shared the Gospel with all, particularly in mission endeavors on eight islands in the Philippines, which she visited three times through her Oasis Love Ministry over a 10-year period. Other interests included sewing, crocheting, gardening, music, reading and travel.
Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Wiley, and three sisters, Caroline Blochberger, Bernice Karcher and Myrtle Hingst.
Ruth is survived by her children Gwen Wiley of Aurora, IL, Julia (Derek) Thornley of Vancouver, BC, Canada, Matthew G. (Roberta) Mueller of Elgin, IL, and Karl (Brenda) Mueller of Kenosha, WI; and her grandchildren Michael and Christopher (Jenna) Wiley, Stuart and Samuel Thornley, and Collin and Kara Gwen Mueller; and two sisters, Dorothy Schoppa and Jeannelle Hintze, as well as many nephews, nieces and other family members.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and remembered for her passion and guidance.
